Mariana Jane Melhorn, 81

Mariana Jane Melhorn, 81, of Sidney died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at 11:10 p.m. at Dorothy Love Health Care Center in Sidney.

She was born on March 12, 1924, in Mayfield Heights, the daughter of the late Frank and Ethel (Sharp) Sherwood. On Dec. 16, 1945, she married Robert Edward Melhorn who survives.

She is also survived by a daughter, Jane (Kent) Witt of Sidney; two sons, Michael (Sharon) Melhorn of Bellbrook, and Gary (Pam) Melhorn of Kettering; seven grandchildren, Kent Jr., Kyle, Susan, Katy, Kelly, Rob and Steve; two brothers, Franklin J. (Emma Jane) Sherwood of Centerville, and Jay Sherwood of Long Beach, Calif.; one sister, Gloria (Max) Clay of Grinnell, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Esther Smith and Gladys Sherwood.

Melhorn was a 1942 graduate of Quincy High School. She was a member of Quincy United Methodist Church for 67 years, one of the longest standing members of the congregation. She worked part-time at Hi-Grade Oil Company in Quincy for several years before becoming a full-time homemaker.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Quincy United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mathew Wright officiating. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery in Quincy.

Visitation was Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.Memorial contributions may be made to Quincy United Methodist Church. Condolences may be expressed at www.timeformemory.com/madden.
